If you had to choose between keeping your vision or your other four senses, what would you do? Most people would probably give up all of their other senses if they could just keep their sight. This is because sight is the most precious sense we have; without it, our lives would be lived in total darkness. In Eyes, kids will learn how this miraculous organ works, starting with a cross-section of the human eye and the many parts that come into play as it processes an image. They’ll be introduced to astigmatism, near-sightedness, and other conditions that can affect the eyes; for kids who wear glasses but don’t really understand why, this section will be an eye-opener.

Speaking of correcting vision, did you know that the contact lens was invented back in 1887, and that people have been wearing eyeglasses since the 1200s? And did you know that most animals’ eyes are even more powerful than ours? Snakes can see infrared light and bees can see ultraviolet light – both of which are way out of our range. However, humans have developed tools like microscopes and telescopes to make up for our comparatively weak vision, allowing us to view everything from the tiniest atoms to stars that are billions of miles away. Eyes, for kids, closes with a bunch of cool experiments kids can try to learn even more about this vital sense.
